The 40-year-old woman was sent to Beijing, and the 18-year-old man to Wuhan.
The detainees' initials are QL and LW. They arrived in Indonesia in July on tourist visas. A foreign doctor needs a work residence permit and a licence to practise medicine. They had neither.
The inspection began after a complaint from residents, who reported that foreigners were working at the hospital. Immigration intelligence officers went there, but at that moment the doctors were not seeing patients. Their passports were confiscated, and both were summoned for questioning.
The head of Denpasar Immigration said that every foreigner in Indonesia must comply with the rules on entry and stay. According to him, the Chinese nationals had been seeing patients covertly.
At the end of August, the authorities announced stepped-up checks on unlicensed clinics and foreign doctors without work permits in the resort areas of southern Bali.
Earlier, in June, a beauty clinic in Canggu was shut down: according to the Ministry of Health, its staff also included medics from elsewhere who had no documents allowing them to practise.
