A beauty clinic in Canggu, PRIME Skin Clinic, has been closed in Bali. It previously operated under the name Elasto Beauty. According to Indonesia’s Ministry of Health, the clinic was providing medical aesthetic services without official permission and was not registered in the healthcare facility system. The owner’s name was not given in the official statement, but the clinic was described as foreign-owned.
The inspection was carried out by the Ministry of Health together with other government agencies. Immigration, the Ministry of Manpower, the Ministry of Home Affairs and security services were involved, along with the Bali and Badung health offices on site. Following the inspection, the clinic was closed. The case will now be reviewed in several areas: medical licences, immigration documents and business permits.
The main issue is not only that the clinic itself did not have a permit. According to the Ministry of Health, foreign medical specialists were also working there without the documents required to practise in Indonesia. To work legally in healthcare in the country, doctors need a registration certificate and a practice permit issued by the Indonesian authorities.
Back in April, a former employee of the company claimed that the clinic in Canggu had allegedly brought in foreign doctors without permission to practise medicine. There were also reports at the time of the possible use of imported products that had not been registered with BPOM, Indonesia’s food and drug authority. The company’s management publicly denied the allegations and said the business was operating legally.
The Ministry of Health has now said that the facility was closed following an investigation. The ministry also reminded the public that medical and beauty procedures should only be carried out at officially licensed premises and by specialists who are authorised to work in Indonesia.
