Three local residents in Bali have been arrested for getting a tourist intoxicated to the point of unconsciousness before stealing his bank card and withdrawing money from his account. The incident occurred on July 11, 2024, but it took six months of investigation before the suspects were taken into custody.

The victim, a 36-year-old Russian citizen, had joined the three men for drinks in the early hours near a Circle K store on Petitenget Street in Kerobokan. He only realized he had been robbed after regaining consciousness. A total of 17 million IDR had been withdrawn from his account. He immediately reported the crime to the North Denpasar Police.
As evidence, authorities seized a withdrawal receipt and transfer confirmation from Permata Bank, a photo of the withdrawal notification, and the suspects clothing. The suspects and the evidence are currently in the custody of North Kuta main police department.

The perpetrators have confessed to the crime. They split the stolen money among themselves, but it has already been spent. Under Article 363 of the Indonesian Penal Code, they now face up to seven years in prison for theft.
Tourists are advised to exercise caution and never consume alcohol or prohibited substances with strangers. While most Balinese people are genuinely friendly, honest, and hospitable, scammers and criminals can be found anywhere especially in tourist hotspots like Kuta, Canggu, and Seminyak. Remember, your safety, belongings, and well-being are ultimately your responsibility.
