What do most travelers around the world dream about? Which destinations remain at the top of their wish lists? A team of analysts from Go2Africa, a South African travel planning agency, set out to answer these questions. By tracking global trends, they compiled a list of the 15 most sought-after destinations.
Recent trends indicate that people are increasingly dreaming of visiting remote destinations like Bali, witnessing natural wonders such as the Northern Lights, or exploring famous cultural landmarks like the Taj Mahal.
To gain deeper insights into these desires, Go2Africa experts analyzed global Google search trends related to travel planning over the past year. Their research revealed that Bali emerged as the most searched travel destination, with over 2.28 million searches, securing its position as the world’s top dream destination.
The ranking authors highlighted Bali’s diverse appeal, catering to honeymooners, adventure seekers, cultural enthusiasts, families, professional surfers, and more. The island offers world-class surfing, serene beaches, breathtaking waterfalls, and iconic temples, making it a destination that suits all types of travelers. Additionally, Bali is often seen as a spiritual center, attracting those who prioritize wellness and self-discovery. Some people are still dreaming of visiting the island due to its association with the famous movie “Eat, Pray, Love.”
This is not the first time Bali has topped the list of most desired travel destinations. In 2019, the island was also in high demand among travelers. However, for several years, it lost its top spot to other locations:
• In 2020, travelers mostly dreamed of visiting Petra, Jordan.
• In 2021, Burj Khalifa in Dubai took the lead.
• In one of the recent years, the Maldives dominated the ranking.
Top Dream Destinations in 2025
This year’s ranking places Bali in first place, followed by wildlife safaris, regardless of the country—though analysts emphasized that an African safari remains the ultimate way to immerse in rich wildlife experiences.
“An African safari—featuring everything from the majestic lion to the elusive aardvark—promises a once-in-a-lifetime adventure where every moment brings you closer to the untamed beauty of nature,” the report states.
The third place is occupied by Santorini, Greece, famous for its whitewashed buildings and stunning views of the Aegean Sea.
“Beyond its picturesque architecture, Santorini is known for its volcanic beaches, moon-like landscapes, and breathtaking vistas, making it an ideal location for unforgettable photos,” the analysts added.
In fourth place is Disneyland in Florida, often referred to as “the happiest place on Earth.”
Closing the top five is Bora Bora, French Polynesia, a tropical paradise renowned for its overwater bungalows and turquoise lagoons.
Regional Travel Desires: What People Want to Visit in Different Countries
In addition to the global ranking, Go2Africa analysts also compiled regional travel trends for several countries. Their findings revealed:
• Switzerland: People dream of visiting Las Vegas, USA.
• Vietnam: The most desired destination is the Eiffel Tower in Paris.
• Honduras: Travelers are most fascinated by the Grand Canyon in the USA.
• Argentina: Many people want to experience New York City.
• Algeria: The top dream destination is the Great Wall of China.
