The Indonesian Ministry of Transport plans to increase the annual capacity of Bali's Ngurah Rai International Airport from the current approximately 24 million to 32 million passengers. This was stated by the head of the Directorate General of Air Transport of the Ministry of Transport, Lukman F. Laisa.

According to him, the increase to 32 million is to be achieved through redesigning, upgrading infrastructure, and major investments. With the current trend, Bali could reach 32 million passengers within 3–4 years.
The Ministry of Transport is discussing how to eventually accommodate around 40–42 million passengers, and a forecasting study referenced by Lukman mentions a potential demand of up to 55 million passengers per year. Among the options mentioned in this context are a second airport or a second runway.
In 2025, Ngurah Rai handled 24,125,161 passengers. Of these, 15,177,283 were international flights (63%) and 8,947,878 were domestic (37%).
Previously, the airport outlined how it plans to reach 32 million: including expanding and redesignating areas in the terminals (for example, increasing waiting areas and restructuring certain sections of the international terminal). This configuration, according to the airport's assessment, should meet needs until approximately 2031.
