The government of Bali Province announced that the exact location for the construction of a new international airport in the north of the island has not yet been determined. This statement was made in response to criticism about violating presidential directives and worsening the investment climate.

The Acting Head of Bali's Transport Agency, Nusakti Yasa Veda, explained: Presidential Decree No. 12 of 2025 indeed provides for the construction of the Northern Bali Airport, but the document does not specify the exact location or official name of the facility. At this stage, the project remains just a strategic development direction.
Meanwhile, possible construction in the village of Kubutambahan is being discussed; however, the Governor of Bali previously sent a letter to the Ministry of Transport proposing to move the project to the village of Sumber Klampok. This decision is also not finalized, as detailed research and coordination with central authorities are required.
The Ministry of Transport supports the initiative, provided that all laws, international standards (including ICAO's security norms), and environmental standards are observed. The Director General of Civil Aviation, Lukman F. Laiza, noted that determining the location is only possible after a comprehensive analysis, an approved land-use plan, and verifying the legal status of the land.
The new airport project is part of the strategic development directions of Bali for the years 2025–2029, alongside the construction of toll roads, and the development of tourist zones and cultural infrastructure. All implementation stages, the authorities emphasize, will be conducted in accordance with the law, with a focus on safety, sustainability, and transparency.
"The public needs to understand: right now, we're talking about plans, not construction. Decisions will only be made based on accurate data and within the framework of current norms," emphasized Nusakti.
Currently on the agenda is not construction, but the planning and coordination stage. The Bali government urges the public not to rush to conclusions. Any decision will be made based on scientific data, compliance with the law, and consideration of all stakeholders' opinions. The construction of the Northern Bali Airport is a strategic project, and its implementation requires accuracy, transparency, and responsibility at every stage.
