Spiritual Principles to Shape North Bali’s New Airport

PT BIBU announced that the future international airport in the north of Bali, in the region of Kubutambah, will be designed in the spirit of Balinese philosophy Tri Hita Karana, which is based on harmony between humans and God, with others, and with nature.

According to the CEO of PT BIBU, the architectural solution was prepared by Alien Design Consultant (Alien DC). Although the complex will be modern and high-tech, it will retain elements of Balinese identity: local materials, traditional landscape design techniques, and planning features. The new airport is envisioned not merely as a gateway to Bali, but as part of the island's vibrant cultural and natural space.
Special attention is given to sustainability: energy-saving systems, natural ventilation, and extensive green areas inside and outside the terminals, which should integrate seamlessly with the mountainous and coastal landscape of Buleleng.
According to calculations, the airport will be able to handle over 20 million passengers annually, and after expansion, up to 50 million. The project plans for the construction of two runways, each 3,600 meters long, capable of accommodating the largest airliners, including the Airbus A380 and Boeing 777.
Plans include a modern cargo terminal with a turnover of up to 250,000 tons per year. It is estimated that the project will create around 200,000 jobs — both directly and indirectly, spur the economic development of North Bali, simplify the logistics of goods, and expand market opportunities for local agriculture.
The construction of the North Bali International Airport is included in Indonesia's National Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMN 2025–2029) and is endorsed by a decree of President Prabowo Subianto (No. 12/2025). The president had earlier expressed a firm intention to implement this project.
