The school's staff consists of professional and qualified teachers from Australia, Canada, Indonesia, France, the United Kingdom, the United States, and New Zealand.
Educational Programs:
1. Primary School (Ages 6-11):
- In BIS, we follow the IB program at all grade levels. The Primary Years Program (PYP) is taught from preschool to grade 5. PYP prepares students to become active, caring, lifelong learners who demonstrate respect for themselves and others and have the ability to participate in the world around them. It focuses on the holistic development of the child, both inquiring within the classroom and beyond.
2. Secondary School (Ages 11-16):
- The Middle Years Program (MYP) is taught from grades 6 to 10. MYP is an international program that does not favor any specific educational system. It was designed as a coherent and comprehensive curriculum framework that provides academic challenge and develops life skills for students aged 11 to 16. As students establish their identity and build self-esteem, MYP can motivate them and help them succeed in school and in life beyond the classroom. The program allows students to leverage their personal strengths and take on challenges in subjects where they may not excel. MYP offers opportunities for students to develop their potential, explore their own preferences in learning, take appropriate risks, and engage in reflection and the development of a strong sense of personal identity.
3. High School (Ages 16-19):
The Diploma Program (DP) is taught during the final two years of schooling, in grades 11 and 12. DP is an academically challenging and well-rounded education program with final exams, preparing students aged 16 to 19 for success in university and life beyond. The program has gained recognition and respect from leading universities worldwide. It is studied in more than 140 countries, fostering international thinking. It largely maintains consistent standards through external assessments. DP is unique in its focus on personal and interpersonal development of students and its reflection of the nature of knowledge.
The school serves students from preschool age to the 12th grade. It is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges and authorized by the International Baccalaureate Organization.
The school's staff consists of professional and qualified teachers from Australia, Canada, Indonesia, France, the United Kingdom, the United States, and New Zealand.
Review from Alina:
At BIS, we went on a tour in the coming days, and we liked everything very much—the library, the atmosphere in the primary classes, the way lessons are conducted in the middle school, the pool, the sports facilities, the extensive campus, and the division between the primary and middle schools. It felt very welcoming inside. We didn't make a mistake.
It's important to note that the school operates on the IB (International Baccalaureate) system, so if you relocate to any other country you can easily find a school that follows the same program at the same level.
We made the decision right away, and from April 16th, we started our education in the fourth quarter. We didn't have any recommendations from kindergarten or medical certificates—nothing like that. Our son didn't know English (except for about 12 lessons per week, which don't really count). However, the international school is geared towards children with languages other than English as their primary language. So, initially, our son's Bahasa lessons were replaced with intensive English classes. Within two and a half weeks, he was already reading children's books in English on his own and translating requests from his English-speaking nanny for his younger sister.
In fact, it was because of BIS that we decided to change our district and moved to Sanur. The main factor that mattered to us was the achievements of the school's graduates. BIS is proud of its alumni who have been accepted into Harvard, Oxford, Cambridge, and other top universities.
The school year began on August 2nd. In this academic year, our younger daughter also started at the same school; they admit students from the age of three. There is no strict division between kindergarten and school, and there are no graduation ceremonies from kindergarten and so on. Children start learning through a soft and comfortable program that combines elements of both kindergarten and school. It's important for us here to immerse our children in an English-speaking environment.
Regarding the cost of education, all the information is available on the website. It depends on the term (three months of the academic year) when you enroll, whether you pay upfront or in installments for each term, and the grade level. For the first grade, where our older child started on August 2nd, the cost was approximately 190 million rupiahs per year.
The academic calendar is also available on the website, outlining all holidays and weekends for planning vacations.

Review from Alexandra:
Gandhi Memorial School may not be perfect, but they put in a lot of effort. In my opinion, they offer a decent balance between price and quality. They are quite academically oriented.
In the first grade, they teach counting up to one hundred and begin to introduce the basics of multiplication.
They are not shy about discussing important and current issues with the children. For example, one of the topics for a semester was migration, in the context of both the history of countries and individual families. They cover reasons for migration, its pros and cons, and the factors that drive or hinder it.
I was concerned about the Indian accent in English instruction, but it turns out it's not an issue; everything is going well. They don't give much homework for now. The academic year is divided into two semesters, and the vacations are typically about one and a half months long during the summer and winter.

Review:
We visited the Australian Independent School (AIS) on an excursion and were impressed by the enormous, modern campus and the American-style setup (just like in the movies). However, there is a significant waiting list for admission (January 2023, and even then, it's not guaranteed), and we didn't want to lose more than half a year. The tuition was slightly more expensive than at BIS.

The school provides a nurturing environment that recognizes each individual's talents, encourages students' aspirations, and creates opportunities for them to become responsible, self-disciplined adults.
Here's the translation of the educational program information:
Pre School
The Preschool program begins with toddlers (aged 2) and progresses to K2 (ages 5 to 6) and is aimed at developing high standards of international education. English is the language of instruction and communication in the classroom, and children are encouraged to use English from an early age. English language lessons are taught by native English-speaking teachers, and subject lessons cover all aspects of development, including moral, religious, social, and emotional awareness, as well as independent thinking. The program includes language, cognitive/mathematical skills, problem-solving and thinking skills, physical development, motor skills, as well as art, crafts, music, and dance skills. Daily lessons are structured around classroom and outdoor activities.
Primary
Cambridge Primary is an educational program aimed at developing English language, mathematics, and science skills, knowledge, and understanding in younger students. These core subjects are complemented by social studies, history, geography, Indonesian language, art, performing arts, foreign languages (French, Mandarin, and Japanese), ICT, physical education, and religion.
Lower Secondary
Taman Rama Intercultural School's middle school program begins with junior high school grades 7 and 8 and provides a natural progression for children from primary education. It builds on the Cambridge Primary to develop the knowledge and skills of each child in English, mathematics, and science and introduces students to a wider academic curriculum, which includes English language, mathematics, and natural sciences (biology, chemistry, and physics), commerce, geography, history, information technology, Indonesian language, art and culture, music, and foreign language options in French, Mandarin, and Japanese. At this stage of the program, significant attention is given to English language and the development of reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills, as well as preparing students adequately for the next stage of their education. It also provides students with an understanding of the types of subjects available at IGCSE.
IGCSE
The International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) is one of the most recognized qualifications worldwide. IGCSE courses are known for developing essential educational skills, including knowledge recall, oral skills, problem-solving, initiative, teamwork, and investigative skills. Subject courses for IGCSE start in grade 9 and conclude in grade 10. Each subject has various assessment methods, including coursework, practical exercises, as well as oral and listening tests, projects, and written examinations. Many Cambridge subjects value individual viewpoints and ideas, so it's important for students to develop the necessary skills to be able to respond and express their own opinions in writing.
International AS & A Levels
Cambridge AS and A-levels are international qualifications widely recognized and valued by universities worldwide, including the UK, US, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and Singapore. The Advanced Level program begins in grade 11 and concludes after two years of study in grade 12. Students follow a full schedule of subjects but tend to focus on three to four A-level subjects for the international examination required for entry into an overseas university.

Preschool Education - from 2.5 to 7 years old.
School Education - from 7 to 16 years old.
"Mission:
We aim to shape a perfect individual who possesses an awareness of collective creativity and thinking based on the laws of the Universe.
Goals:
1) Recognize that a person is part of society, as a single organism.
2) Develop the ability to build harmonious relationships with the entire world.
3) Foster a highly developed individuality with all the necessary human qualities:
- The ability to synthesize and see the world as a whole, set goals, and achieve them, striving for self-improvement.
- Mastery of the laws of the Universe.
- The ability to collaborate and coordinate, striving for self-management.
- Possession of broad perspectives, compassion, and an appreciation of beauty.
- The pursuit of self-awareness and knowledge acquisition.
- Possession of emotional resilience.
- Excellent physical health.
Tasks:
1. Direct the process of learning from the general to the specific to obtain a holistic view of the surrounding world (use the Synthesis method - the method of studying a subject in its entirety, in unity and mutual connection of its parts). Teach practical use of natural cycles in the learning process (the law of cyclicality is inherent in the learning process).
2. Develop in the child a habit of setting their goals every day and summarizing the work done, aligning them with the set goals.
3. Teach children to be beneficial to the world, guided by universal values and the laws of the Universe.
4. Help develop intuition and abilities for subtle perception of the world.
5. In addition to individual work, instill the skill of working in pairs among children – "teacher-student," group work. Process information obtained collectively, identifying connections between different areas of knowledge. Investigate the consequence of a process, find its cause. This leads to creative, scientific, individual, and social development of personality. Develop self-management skills (collegial decisions, creating statutes and adhering to them, planning actions, distributing responsibilities, etc.).
6. Build the learning process to actively engage both hemispheres of the brain, developing thinking skills in children, bringing them into harmony with themselves and the surrounding world. Be a healthy, confident, and unique individual in modern society.
7. Create conditions for interesting problem-solving (taking into account the child's request). Interest is the goal, learning is the means. Develop skills to use any source, extracting the necessary information from it. Help unfold individual abilities.
8. Make learning collaborative in the "Teacher - Student - Parent" system (parent and child master classes, achievement festivals, parent clubs, etc.).
9. Instill responsibility for emotional and physical health, creating an appropriate environment (morning exercises, warm-ups, swimming, sound harmonization, Elemental Balance gymnastics, "short nap," relaxation practices, sensory organ development, mindful eating, hygiene, etc.).
The entire learning process is based on kind stories, parables, and folk wisdom."

Montessori School Bali

Phone: +62 813-3950-9018
Groups:
- Infant and Toddler: Up to 3 years old
- Preschool: 3 - 6 years old
- Primary: 6 - 12 years old
- Adolescents: 12 - 15 years old
Education is conducted using the methodology of Dr. Maria Montessori (1870-1952). Montessori was a physician, educator, and multiple-time nominee for the Nobel Peace Prize. She developed a system that nurtures children's natural desire to learn. The Montessori approach focuses on a child's social, emotional, physical, spiritual, and cognitive development. It emphasizes looking at the child as a whole and assisting them in realizing their maximum potential, providing them with the tools and strategies necessary for each stage of development.
The Montessori classroom environment is designed to pique a child's interest and curiosity. Tasks are structured so that they contain everything a child needs to complete them independently. This helps the child gain confidence and freedom of will as they see they can do things on their own. Lessons for all age groups are broken down into specific, achievable tasks that children can perform until they can assemble them to accomplish something more complex.
Children have the freedom to choose their activities, which enhances their concentration, self-discipline, and builds their confidence as learners.
The Montessori method asserts that children possess a natural inclination to explore, discover, and learn. In a carefully prepared stimulating environment, they will explore the world in a way that promotes the blossoming of their personalities. This fosters a sense of order, concentration, independent work habits, initiative, and inner control, so external discipline is rarely needed.
Montessori classrooms typically cover an age range from three to four years. Children usually stay in the same class with the same teacher for a minimum of three years, creating a community of people who know and care for each other and understand how to communicate with each other. When a child starts in the class, they typically begin as the youngest, observing the older children to learn about social norms and opportunities for activities. As children progress into their third year in the class, having learned more and more, they become leaders and role models for younger children entering the class, developing leadership skills, confidence, and independence.
Since each child progresses at their own pace, students can enjoy their accomplishments without the need to compare themselves to others in the class.
Interaction among children of different age groups fosters stronger social bonds. Younger children absorb the behavior models of older students and anticipate upcoming activities, while older children develop leadership qualities, confidence, and independence as they share their skills. Children in each class help establish basic rules of behavior in their classroom. This helps them take responsibility for their own behavior and provides them with opportunities to practice self-regulation by following basic rules.
Instruction is provided by both Indonesian and international teachers.

Review:
Hello, as requested, I'm writing about our experience with the school in Bali.
Our son attends Dyatmika School, and their website is: http://www.dyatmika.org/. The website is quite informative; you can check it out for all the pricing details.
The school is located in northern Sanur, near the intersection with Dr. Ida Bagus Mantra, close to the Prudential office. It's about a 30-minute drive from Ubud, and the same goes for the airport if you take the highway.
They teach in both English and Indonesian languages up to 6th grade. All the core subjects are taught in English, while subjects required for national exams are taught in Indonesian. National exams are not mandatory for foreigners; such students take exams in the Cambridge system.
The teachers are partly European, while the administration, security, and so on are local.
On the school campus, there are several buildings: a preschool, elementary school (up to 6th grade), and high school (up to 12th grade), an indoor sports hall, a playground, a small football field (currently expanding), and more.
The parking area is a bit small, but the security staff is quite helpful in managing traffic, and I always pick up my child on time, even if I don't arrive in advance. There are no school buses for transporting children; many parents pool resources to hire a driver with a car who picks up and drops off the kids, or those who live nearby make arrangements among themselves.
At the beginning of each year, the school organizes something like a picnic where you can get to know everyone and make arrangements.
There are quite a few additional programs for children after school hours, including sports sections and entertaining and educational activities for an additional fee. The school sends all information about such programs via email, and the kids often share this information.
Regarding lunches: for elementary school, you can order from a daily menu or bring your own lunches. Some children do one or the other. There are water coolers everywhere, and each child has either their own water bottle or a cup at the classroom.
Everything is quite clean, and it's evident that regular cleaning is done. The school has a nurse who calls parents if there's anything wrong with a child. When my son had a fever during a lesson and caught a cold, they took him to the medical office, checked his temperature, calmed him down, and put him to rest. Then they called me and informed me. When he scratched his leg, they also provided first aid.
Rodina_Olya:
I want to write about the English language and children.
Honestly, I don't know about 10-year-olds, but at 4-5 years old, our friends went to school in Switzerland with no knowledge of French. This was in Geneva, which is an international city. In their regular school class, there were 80% expatriates and refugees, and half of the class did not speak the language. In other schools, similar situations existed in varying proportions, and everyone understood each other perfectly within a month.
There's also an example of someone who moved at the age of 11. The girl found it challenging for the first 2 months, but now she excels in her studies and is graduating from school.
While it might seem difficult to you, children often adapt more easily. If anyone has doubts about academic performance and language abilities, I would say, cast aside those doubts. It's one of the least challenging aspects of relocating to another country.
Chrisberg:
"We enrolled our children in AIS (Australian Independent School Bali), it's expensive, but so far, we like it. It comes out to around 10,000 per year per child. It's cheaper than in the rest of Asia. The English is closer to Australian English. Everything is in English. English is now native for our children; they've been using it since they were 3 years old. In AIS, in the upper grades, there is international examination, as far as I understand, if you do well, you can get into European and Australian universities without exams.
We've been at AIS for only a month so far, but we are experienced; we've studied all over Asia and can see immediately what the school is like. Our children are 9 and 11 years old, in the 3rd and 6th grades."
A review of schools from user bambaleo:
"I was pondering the same question and went on tours of CCS and AIS.
In CCS:
- Located on the FINS campus.
- The campus looks super cool, like a nice hotel.
- I visited during school hours, and the kids seemed engaged.
- I saw teachers (not Indonesians, although there should be about 30% of them), and they inspire confidence.
- Didn't get to meet the director.
- They follow the British system.
- The school year starts on August 10th.
- All extracurricular activities are closed due to COVID.
- There's a fairly international student body due to the location, with many Europeans.
- They say there are about 20 kids in each class.
At AIS:
- Liked the director.
- They emphasize that the atmosphere is very friendly for special needs children.
- In the preschool, the teaching staff is mainly Indonesian.
- In the school, almost all teachers are Australians.
- The school year starts in January, with the second semester on July 21st.
- The number of children in each class varies, from 8 to 20.
- Most students are Australians and children from mixed families.
GreenSchool:
- I wanted to enroll my child in GreenSchoolEnglish to check it out, but they delayed this program until the end of the year.
- We actually stopped considering the school because you need to live in Ubud to attend. It takes about 40 minutes to get there from all other locations."
A review from Svetlana:
"My two children attend Sunrise International School (KG - 4 years old and Year 1 - 6 years old). All classes are in English, and there is a lot of homework. The children eagerly go to their classes. They already spoke English because they grew up in an English-speaking environment. It would be challenging without the language. Before deciding where to send my children, I visited three options (expensive - Canggu Community School, medium-priced - Sunrise, and cheap - Moorphy). Then I compared the cost, conditions, quality of education, the environment in which the children would study, the campus, and the school's ideology. I also looked at reviews from foreigners. It seems to me that our mentality is more demanding, so they give average or poor ratings, although our schools leave much to be desired."
A review from Elena about Skywalker school:
"We attend Skywalker in Canggu. They remained open even during the peak of the pandemic because they have the status of a developmental center rather than a school, which allowed them to continue operating. My 9-year-old daughter is very happy there. The teachers are all local, but they are well-trained. The curriculum is based on the Cambridge system. The cost is 23 million if you pay for 6 months. However, there is a selection process and a trial month before that."
A review from Anastasia:
"We attend CCS (Canggu Community School)! Our kids are now studying full-time, 5 days a week. All the teachers are native speakers!!! It's one of the large international schools in Bali! Located in Canggu. Our kids are 9 and 12 years old, and we really like the school. The kids enjoy going there."
A review from Aleksandra Hladun:
"We enrolled in ProEducation. Very satisfied. For children who don't know English well, there is separate support (free of charge). Many foreign teachers, native speakers. Plus, after school, children have the opportunity to attend various clubs for free. A nice, large campus with equipped classrooms, a stadium, a swimming pool, and a cafeteria (for an additional fee) with a good menu."
Svetlana Antonova's Review:
"Good day!
I'll leave a brief review about BIS (Bali Island School, Sanur). We chose it because it's a stable, internationally certified, well-staffed, constantly developing school. It offers the IB program (International Baccalaureate), and this year's average score for graduates was 34 out of 45, allowing students to enter most universities worldwide without additional exams. The program is international, with a significant focus on transnational issues relevant to the world as a whole, not just one specific country. Children enjoy learning at the school, and there are currently 220 students enrolled.
The teaching staff is international and positive. Students come from 25 different countries. My child had a strong command of English when they arrived, so there were no adaptation difficulties at all. We compared BIS with Green School, AIS, CIS, and ultimately chose BIS mainly for the level of education it offers and the school's readiness to communicate and address concerns. Since Bali is a place where people constantly come and go, the school has a built-in process for children's adaptation.
The school offers numerous extracurricular activities, both paid and free. School sessions began on August 2nd.
Victoria's Review:
Regarding our experience: my son started his education at Asian International School Bali in the 4th grade, and as far as I'm concerned, everything is excellent in the elementary school there. There are many interesting activities with a strong focus on creativity. The learning process itself is engaging; for example, they learned about electrical circuits by independently assembling flashlights and had many such lessons.
The teachers and staff are very pleasant, and there are regular meetings with parents where each teacher communicates individually and provides detailed information about your child and the learning process. The school has a large swimming pool where regular swimming lessons and competitions are held. In general, in the elementary school, everything is great!
Now my son is in the 7th grade, and here it's quite clear that the program is weak, very weak. However, we compensate by hiring tutors for the subjects we are interested in, like physics and mathematics. But credit should be given to the school; the children often participate in international Olympiads, which is a plus. After COVID-19, many foreign teachers left, and they were replaced by locals, but our class was lucky to have an Australian teacher remain. In our class, there are few students, only 7, and the majority have a European father and Indonesian mother, with one Japanese girl and one boy from the United States. The children are all good friends.
The school has a very pleasant vice principal who actively participates in all aspects of school life. They follow the Cambridge program. The instruction is in English, plus two elective languages: Chinese and French, in addition to Bahasa. In conclusion, overall we are satisfied, but the program is a bit weak.
I can also add from my experience that it's better to visit the schools you are interested in when you are on-site and talk to the school leadership. They are usually happy to provide information and show you around. For us, living in Bukit is crucial, and there aren't many school choices there. Plus or minus, from all the schools I visited in different areas, the upper grades are weak everywhere.
It looks like Asia School, and the entire second floor is an international school. There is security at the entrance, and parents can enter the school only after classes and on event days. Children are accompanied by a security guard and met by a teacher. The classrooms are well-equipped, but older children bring their own laptops. There is a large swimming pool on the premises, a big football field, and a separate play area for preschoolers. The classrooms have air conditioning, while the rest of the area is open.
Review from Aleksandr :
We are finishing our studies at Taman Rama Gandhi School.
In terms of international schools, in my opinion, it's the best and not expensive.
They don't always have available spots; our son was eligible for 1st or 2nd grade by age, but there were no spots, so he entered directly into the 3rd grade. He caught up with his peers within a few months.
If you live south of Ubud, it will take a maximum of 30 minutes to commute.
Report from Yulia Shchepelin:
We arrived after kindergarten, and this year is the first grade. Adaptation was challenging for the child, so we chose the path of least resistance. WISDOM ACADEMY 0878-4025-4177 https://maps.app.goo.gl/TTrcFRSLCBMRcdb69?g_st=ic
It's in English, but everything is very activity-based, entertaining, and engaging. We chose it as a soft adaptation and English language learning option. We arranged additional English lessons with a teacher from the school. Their relationship is just fantastic, and I took advantage of it. It was 6.5 million for six months. Cons - the food is fast food. After six months, he started speaking a little, so we decided to try regular school. We passed entrance tests (English, math, logic) at Gandhi Memorial International School.

From the new semester (January), I am very satisfied with it. The program is very challenging, I see homework, and we work with the same teacher from the first school. But there is so much communication with parents there. We prepare something every week, they perform and present (all in English, of course), plus Bahasa. The school building itself is not very attractive, but it's not the walls that teach. The cost is 75 million per year, and you can pay by semester.
Cons - the child started learning to read and write in two languages simultaneously.
