Soon, you will no longer need to fly to Mallorca, the famous tennis player’s home island, to train using Rafael Nadal’s methodology.
The Rafa Nadal Tennis Center will open on Lombok’s southern coast in the first quarter of 2028, becoming Rafa’s first project in Southeast Asia.
Importantly, this will not be another huge academy modelled on the main complex in Mallorca. The Rafa Nadal Tennis Center in Lombok will follow a format designed for resort destinations, allowing visitors to combine sport with a holiday and choose individual training sessions or programmes for the duration of their trip.
Similar centers already operate in Mexico, Greece, Hong Kong, Marbella, and Punta Cana. The network’s full-scale academies are located in Manacor and Kuwait.
The center is expected to have four tennis courts and four padel courts. It will offer programmes for children and adults of different ability levels. The training will be based on a methodology developed by Rafael Nadal and his technical team over more than twenty years on the professional tennis tour.
The center in Lombok will be part of the Samara Lombok resort, currently under construction approximately 25 minutes from the airport. The project covers 150 hectares. The academy will be part of a large resort complex designed to cater to families, among other guests.
According to Rafa Nadal Academy Deputy General Manager Maribel Nadal, the team chose Lombok because of the island’s international potential and wants to make its methodology accessible to new generations of players and families from different countries. The Indonesian project will bring Nadal’s brand to the Southeast Asian market for the first time.
