The head of the narcotics police reported that these involve batches of psychotropic drugs and potent medications distributed without licenses and prescriptions. More than 65,000 tablets and capsules have been seized, including methylphenidate, diazepam, alprazolam, Viagra, sildenafil, and other medications. Additionally, over 4,000 pills marked 'Y' and 'DMP' were found. Laboratory tests established that 'Y' contains 3.72 mg of trihexyphenidyl HCL, and 'DMP' has 18.75 mg of dextromethorphan.
The police emphasized that such substances are dangerous to health: they affect the nervous system, cause drowsiness, coordination impairment, and can lead to accidents and injuries. According to the suspects, the drugs were purchased through online channels.
The first arrest involved a 21-year-old repeat offender from Jember, apprehended on September 12. Two days later, two more men aged 24 and 25 were caught. All three are charged with selling potent drugs without licenses and prescriptions. They are accused of violating Article 435 of the Health Law of 2023, which provides for up to 12 years in prison and a fine of up to 5 billion rupiahs.
The police urged residents and tourists to immediately report any cases of discovering 'Y', 'DMP', or any other suspicious medications without official markings to the nearest station.
It is understandable that Bali, being a popular tourist destination, also attracts illegal drug dealers. However, the police continue to fight effectively against drug trafficking on the island.
