Over 4,000 Baby Turtles Released into Bali’s Ocean

More than 4,000 newborn turtles made their way into the ocean off the coast of Serangan Island in Sanur. The event marked the completion of a year-long project to save sea turtles, during which volunteers collected and incubated over 7,600 eggs.

The event was organized by the Bali Natural Resources Conservation Center and a local educational center for turtle conservation. Around 500 volunteers, including students, island residents, ecologists, and representatives of the tourism business, participated in the release.
All the little ones belong to the species olive ridley sea turtle (Lepidochelys olivacea). Experts remind us that in the wild, only 1–2% of individuals survive to adulthood, so artificial hatching significantly increases the species' chances of survival.
The center's staff continues to patrol the beaches, collect eggs, and place them in an incubator, protecting the nests from surf, erosion, and human interference. The successful hatching of more than 4,000 hatchlings from 7,600 eggs confirms the program's effectiveness.
