The Bali Transportation Agency has announced a traffic management plan for the New Year holidays in Bali’s tourist areas, particularly in Kuta.
If traffic jams occur on Jalan Raya Kuta, several measures will be implemented. For instance, a one-way traffic system heading north may be introduced.
Motorists traveling along Sunset Road toward Ngurah Rai Airport or Kuta will be required to make a U-turn in Kedonganan.
It seems authorities plan to close the turn toward the airport from the northern side of the roundabout, redirecting traffic through the tunnel under the roundabout. Drivers will then have to make a U-turn and return to the turn-off from the opposite direction. This is likely intended to separate the bypass traffic heading to the airport from the toll road flow.
The image shows the proposed traffic flow plan. The U-turn point is indicated approximately.
The traffic redirection measures are situational and will be implemented if necessary, with the goal of avoiding a repeat of last year’s traffic collapse.
Authorities urge drivers who do not need to travel to the airport to avoid roads leading to it, especially truck drivers.
In other tourist areas, such as Canggu, no similar plan is in place. However, officers are prepared to respond to any situation as needed.
According to forecasts, the number of tourists visiting Bali during this year’s New Year holidays is expected to reach 1.3 million, surpassing last year’s figures. The increase in tourist numbers has already been observed since last weekend.
