As predicted by Bali’s authorities, the influx of tourists has begun. Starting December 18, Bali’s international airport saw a significant increase in passenger arrivals, coinciding with the start of Nataru, Indonesia’s term for the Christmas and New Year holiday period.
According to Ahmad Syaugi Syahab, the airport’s general manager, the total number of passengers reached 67,268, including 27,858 domestic travelers and 39,410 international tourists. This marks a 14% increase compared to the same period in 2023 when the airport handled 58,961 passengers. Additionally, flight operations increased by 4%, with 406 daily arrivals and departures, largely driven by domestic flights from major Indonesian cities such as Jakarta, Surabaya, and Pontianak.
Ahmad Syaugi Syahab emphasized that the airport is well-prepared for the New Year tourist surge, ensuring comfort, safety, and security for travelers. Bali’s airport is expected to handle a total of 1.3 million passengers during this period.
Meanwhile, Heru Widodo, President of Indonesia’s River, Lake, and Ferry Transport Company (ASDP), reported that preparations for the 2024/2025 Nataru season were successfully completed. To manage the sharp increase in passengers, ASDP has deployed over 50 vessels to handle peak demand.
The company projects that 3 million passengers will be served during the Christmas and New Year holidays, not just in Bali but across Indonesia’s waterways. Widodo highlighted enhanced preparations, including the promotion of online ferry ticket purchases through the Ferizy app, designed to simplify the process for passengers.
Currently, tickets are no longer sold at ferry ports, and passengers must purchase them through the app or official Ferizy partners. Tickets can now be booked up to an hour before departure, and the app provides up-to-date ferry schedules.
Widodo also urged passengers to ensure the accuracy of personal information when booking tickets, as these details are recorded in a declaration form. This step streamlines the process for claiming insurance benefits in case of unexpected incidents.
