New Safety Measures Set to Transform Bali's Most Dangerous Beach

Due to the increasing number of accidents and fatalities at Kelingking Beach, Bali authorities are taking urgent measures to ensure tourist safety. Kelingking Beach, located on the island of Nusa Penida, has long been known for its treacherous beauty, attracting hundreds of thousands of tourists every year. Now, visiting this picturesque beach is set to become safer.
Security guards will be stationed at Kelingking Beach and other dangerous areas of Nusa Penida. The head of the Klungkung Tourism Office, Ni Made Suliastiwati, announced that fences and warning signs have already been installed at several high-risk beaches. She added, "We have installed warning signs and swimming prohibition signs. We will enhance these measures by placing security officers at vulnerable locations."
In addition to Kelingking Beach, guards will be on duty at Devil’s Tears, Angel’s Billabong, Diamond Beach, and Broken Beach. These popular tourist spots are also known for their hazardous nature and high accident rates.
The new measures were initiated after the recent tragic death of a tourist at Kelingking Beach. A 30-year-old Qatari citizen, ignoring the guide's warnings and safety signs, decided to swim in the dangerous waters and lost his life. This incident prompted the authorities to take additional steps to prevent such tragedies in the future.
While the clear blue waters of Kelingking Beach may seem inviting, the reality is that this stretch of coastline is extremely dangerous and unpredictable. Often, the visibly strong waves deter tourists from ignoring safety advice. However, even when the water appears calm, the danger remains. It is never safe to enter the water at Kelingking Beach, even during seemingly tranquil conditions. The powerful and unpredictable currents along the shoreline quickly sweep those in shallow waters off their feet and drag them out to sea.
Previously, Nusa Penida’s beaches were closed to visitors without much success. Now, a lift is being constructed at Kelingking, which means even more tourists will be in close proximity to the dangerous waters.
The new safety measures at Kelingking Beach and other hazardous areas of Nusa Penida aim to save lives and ensure a safe experience for all tourists. Authorities urge visitors to strictly follow the established rules and not risk their lives for beautiful photos or fleeting pleasures.
