MNC Land and Indonesia’s Bumi Indah Prima have reached an agreement to finalize a land purchase deal near the iconic Tanah Lot Temple. The transaction involves the MNC Bali Resort, also known as Trump International Resort & Golf Club Bali. As the name suggests, this property is part of the financial empire of Donald Trump, the newly re-elected President of the United States. The total value of the deal is IDR 5.5 trillion, with completion expected in January 2025. The acquired land assets are planned for Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) as part of the Bali Urban Rail and Associated Development project, commonly referred to as the Bali Metro.
M. Budi Rustanto, President Director of MNC Land, highlighted that the deal underscores the company’s commitment to supporting the acceleration of transport and infrastructure development in Bali. “This is a strategic move for MNC Land, enhancing its contribution to Bali’s growth by facilitating the Bali Metro project. We are optimistic that this initiative will reduce road congestion, increase the island’s appeal as a tourist destination, and significantly boost Bali’s economy, ultimately benefiting Indonesia’s overall economic growth,” he stated.
The TOD project, championed by Bali’s authorities, will be executed in four phases, connecting I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport with various key tourist hubs across the island:
1. Phase 1: Airport - Kuta Central Parking - Seminyak - Berawa - Cemagi (16 km).
2. Phase 2: Airport - Jimbaran - UNUD (Udayana University) - Nusa Dua (13.5 km).
3. Phase 3: Kuta Central Parking - Sesetan - Renon - Sanur (currently in the planning stage).
4. Phase 4: Renon - Sukawati - Ubud (also in the planning stage).
Construction of the segment between the airport and Kuta Central Parking, as well as the entirety of Phase 2, is expected to be completed by the end of the second quarter of 2028.
This land purchase marks a significant milestone in Bali’s infrastructure development. The Bali Metro project is anticipated to serve as an innovative transportation solution and support the island’s economic sustainability as an international tourist destination.
The head of Tanah Lot Village, Putu Heri Susanta, confirmed he is aware of the land purchase but has not yet received detailed information. According to him, the village government has not been officially informed of the specifics, making it difficult to comment. “Of course, we will continue monitoring developments, as this asset is located in our area and directly impacts the local community,” he added.
Recognizing the significant potential of the Tanah Lot region, Putu Heri emphasized the importance of collaboration between investors and local authorities to ensure development aligns with Balinese culture and environmental sustainability.
