Kintamani Hit by Fly Infestation, Bangli Prepares Action Plan

The Kintamani area of Bali is beloved for its stunning views of the volcano and lake. However, there's a less photogenic side to it: there are often many flies. In recent weeks, the number of complaints has increased, with cafes, restaurants, and tourist spots reporting that insects disturb their guests.

Amid these appeals, the Bangli district administration announced it is preparing measures to control the fly population. Authorities held a working meeting with representatives from the tourism sector and relevant departments – environment, agriculture, and health, as well as the hotel and restaurant industry association.
The reasons for the surge are described as complex: waste that isn't always processed promptly and properly, and the use of raw chicken manure in agriculture without adequate processing (fermentation/composting), creating conditions for insect breeding. The seasonal factor is also noted: during the rainy season, the problem is more pronounced.
Through the environment department, authorities promise to strengthen waste management practices (including working with businesses and the public).
Simultaneously, industry representatives are urging a transition from discussions to quick practical steps to avoid damaging tourist impressions and the destination's reputation. In Bangli, the idea also arose to involve the regional agency for research and innovation (BRIDA) to find a sustainable way to combat flies without harming farmers.
