Those planning to visit the islands near Bali should postpone sea travel.

The Regional Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) in Denpasar is urging residents, fishermen, and tourists to exercise caution due to the likelihood of high waves and extreme weather conditions.
The warning is valid from May 19 to 22, 2025.
The largest waves, ranging from 2.5 to 4 meters in height, are expected in the southern part of the Lombok Strait and the southern waters of the island of Bali. Additionally, waves between 1.25 and 2.5 meters may occur in the Badung Strait, northern waters of Bali, and the Bali Strait.

The turbulent ocean can threaten not only speedboats but also large vessels. For example, due to strong waves on the deck of a passenger ferry from Java, a truck overturned onto a nearby car. The incident happened at Gilimanuk Port in Bali.
"A large wave struck from the right as the vessel was turning left, causing a truck to overturn and crush a nearby car," said District Police Chief I Komang Muliadi.

According to him, red rice and timber spilled onto the deck from the overturned truck, which was driven by Indra Suganda from West Java.
"The cargo weighed about six tons. The timber and rice were expected to be delivered to Kintamani, Bangli district," police said.
As a result of the incident, the left side of the truck's body was dented, and the Toyota Yaris, onto which the truck fell, suffered severe rear damage.
The Toyota Yaris was driven by Zainul Hajar, a resident of the Tabanan district.
To prevent trucks from overturning, the ship's crew generally secures vehicles with metal cables attached to the deck. It is unclear whether this was done this time.
The local police chief also reported that loading and unloading operations at Pier II had to be suspended to evacuate the affected vehicles due to the incident.
"Waves 2.5-4 meters high can be hazardous for maritime navigation, especially in strong winds," said Cahyo Nugroho, head of BMKG Denpasar.
He explained that fishing boats can capsize at wind speeds of 15 knots and waves 1.25 meters high, barges at 16 knots and waves 1.5 meters high, and passenger ferries can be severely affected at winds of 21 knots and waves up to 2.5 meters.
According to him, in the northern waters of Bali, the wind is mainly blowing from the east and southeast at speeds ranging from 2 to 30 knots, while in the southern waters of Bali, it is blowing in the same direction but at speeds from 2 to 25 knots. These conditions are conducive to increasing wave heights in the coming days.
Overall, in the coming days, Bali is expected to have cloudy weather with possible rain ranging from light to heavy intensity. The air temperature will vary from 21 to 33 degrees Celsius, and relative humidity will range from 65 to 95%.
