Dramatic Rescue: Tourists and Crew Saved from Sinking Boat near Gili Trawangan!

During a sea excursion, the vessel Ocean 5 sank near the shark point spot off the coast of Gili Trawangan. On board were four foreign tourists, the captain, and three crew members.
The tourists—a Dutchman, an Indian, and two Australians—had planned to go diving and snorkeling, for which they hired the Ocean 5 boat with a crew from Gili Air. The boat anchored to allow the travelers to dive. As the tourists were putting on their gear, they were thrown into the water by strong waves that rocked the boat. Water also entered the engine, causing it to fail. The boat’s stern gradually filled with water, eventually capsizing and sinking.
Fortunately, the SOS signal was heard by a nearby dive center boat, which came to the rescue and evacuated the tourists and crew of Ocean 5. There were no injuries. The rescue boat towed the vessel back to the harbor on Gili Air.
In June 2024, following an accident involving a tour boat near Labuan Bajo (East Nusa Tenggara province), two Spanish tourists were hospitalized for medical assistance.
When setting out on a sea trip, always consider weather conditions, wave height, and the condition of the vessel offered for the excursion.
