Luxury Resort in Nusa Dua Partially Closed After Inspections

The authorities in Bali are tightening their control over the tourism business and construction in coastal areas. One of the most renowned luxury resorts in the south of the island, Samabe Bali Suites & Villas, located in Nusa Dua, has come under inspection.

Samabe is a five-star complex for affluent guests and couples. It is regularly featured in collections of the "most romantic hotels in Asia," advertised as a luxury all-inclusive resort, and chosen for weddings, photoshoots, and honeymoons. However, even the resort's popularity did not protect it from sanctions.

A special committee of Bali's parliament on spatial planning and licensing (Pansus TRAP DPRD Bali) temporarily closed part of the resort's facilities after violations were identified. The main complaints concern a unique restaurant in a sea cave at the base of a cliff: the facility lacked a Certificate of Functional Worthiness (SLF). Additionally, the committee found that an elevator structure on the cliff was built without permits, and such installations are prohibited for safety reasons. Violations were also identified in the operation of a pool at the cliff's edge.
"We are not against investment, but rules must be followed. Large-scale facilities cannot be built without permits, especially in dangerous coastal areas. This contradicts the philosophy of Tri Hita Karana, the 'New Era Bali' decree No.100, and the principles of preserving the island's nature," said committee chairman I Made Suparta.

Samabe's owners were given 14 days to address the violations, obtain the necessary licenses, and undergo inspections by relevant agencies, including the Public Works Department (PUPR), the Environmental Protection Department (DLH), and the Investment and Licensing Department (PTSP). If the documents are not processed on time, the committee may recommend suspending the resort's activities and reviewing its license.
This inspection is part of a broader campaign to combat violations in the construction of tourist facilities. The mass development of cliff and coastal zones in Bali is causing concern among authorities: there is an increasing risk of landslides, shoreline destruction, and loss of natural landscape.
According to lawmakers, control will be intensified. Officials emphasize that investments in Bali must take into account not only the economy but also the cultural and environmental values of the Island of the Gods.
