Indonesia’s First Michelin Keys: 3 Hotels Reach the Top Tier

In 2025, Indonesian hotels were included in the Michelin Key program for the first time, a system that evaluates accommodation based on uniqueness, comfort, and service level. 'Keys' are awarded in three categories; three keys are the highest rating.

In the global Michelin Key 2025 list, which included over 7,000 hotels, 33 Indonesian properties were recognized. Three of them received three keys:
Nihi Sumba (Sumba, East Nusa Tenggara) — a luxury eco-resort on secluded beaches offering surfing and nature activities.
Amanjiwo (Magelang, Central Java) — a hotel near Borobudur with monumental stone architecture and a contemplative atmosphere.

Mandapa, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve (Ubud, Bali) — a tranquil resort in the Ayung River valley offering personalized services and spa practices.
Another 30 hotels across the country received one or two keys, ranging from Jakarta's city hotels (Four Seasons, The Langham, Raffles, St. Regis) to resorts in Bali, Lombok, and Sumba (Amankila, Buahan, Lost Lindenberg, Cap Karoso, etc.).
Michelin evaluates its properties based on five criteria: architecture and interior, service consistency and quality, individuality, value for money, and contribution to local communities and ecology.
For the industry, it's formal recognition of the maturity of Indonesian hospitality; for travelers, a simple guide to enjoying a truly memorable stay.
