In early June 2025, the Indonesian immigration service reminded foreigners that having a visa and a full set of documents doesn't automatically guarantee entry. A border officer can refuse entry if they notice discrepancies or violations. To avoid unpleasant surprises, check key details in advance.
Why Might You Be Denied Entry?
- Damaged passport. It must be valid for at least 6 months from the date of entry; the cover and pages should be free of stains, creases, and tears.
- Incorrect visa. A tourist visa does not allow for working, conducting business meetings, or receiving income in Indonesia. Officers verify the purpose of the visit and, if necessary, inspect luggage.
- Missing documents. You need an electronic visa or visa on arrival, a return ticket, and accommodation booking (or an invitation from the host). Lack of any of these is grounds for denial.
- Blacklist (Cegah / Tangkal). Visa violators or those who exceeded their stay are automatically turned back.
How to Prepare?
1. Ensure your passport is "like new" and valid for ≥ 6 months.
2. Print or save on your phone:
- confirmed return ticket;
- hotel or villa booking;
- electronic visa (e‑Visa) or payment receipt for VOA.
3. Match the real purpose of your trip with the type of visa.
4. If you've previously overstayed in Indonesia, check your status in the immigration database.
Visa Agency Advice
Client experience shows: five extra minutes checking documents is more reliable than any "verbal guarantees." If in doubt, send scans of your passport, visa, and booking for a preliminary audit: we'll advise how to close "loopholes" and reduce the risk of denial before your flight.
