Until July 29, the Singaraja Immigration Office is conducting stepped-up checks on foreign nationals in three areas of Bali. Patrols are operating in places where many foreigners live and holiday: Lovina, Amed and Medewi.
Officers are checking passports, stay permits and whether people’s actual activities comply with their visa conditions. If a foreign national is suspected of a violation, they may be taken to the immigration office for further checks.
The raids may cover not only hotels and villas but also guesthouses. Guesthouses are not currently being checked, but immigration officers are prepared to visit them, including in response to reports from local residents. No violations have yet been found during the operation.
Hotels, villas and other accommodation providers must register foreign guests in the APOA system. The owner or manager enters each guest’s passport details at check-in and records their departure. This electronic database helps the immigration authorities track where foreign nationals are staying.
