The Indonesian Immigration Office has deported two Russian women from Bali who were working as massage therapists on the island. The women, identified as A.T. (24) and K.M. (22), were expelled for engaging in illegal activities.
The violators were arrested at a villa in Seminyak on November 14. They remained in custody until all formalities for their deportation were completed, including the purchase of tickets for their return home.
The head of the Immigration Detention Center in Denpasar, Gede Dudi Duwita, revealed that the women were providing “plus-plus” massage services. During the arrest, officers confiscated various pieces of evidence, including baby oil, sex toys, as well as U.S. and Australian dollars.
Additionally, officers uncovered promotional photos used to advertise their services. The detainees admitted that the photos were theirs.
The women were tracked down during a “digital patrol”—a practice that, as it turns out, exists in Bali. Immigration officers discovered suspicious posts on social media, which eventually led them to the massage therapists.
Gede Dudi Duwita explained that A.T. and K.M. were found in violation of Article 75, paragraph (1) of Law No. 6 of 2011 on Immigration. This violation resulted in their deportation.
Notably, the deportation was not based on the nature of their work but rather on a general clause used for overstays or improper conduct, referred to as a violation of residency status. If they had been convicted of prostitution, they could have faced several years in prison. However, the violators were simply deported and blacklisted from re-entering Indonesia.
Indonesian authorities continue to warn against cracking down more severely on minor offenses, but for now, they often stop short of harsh penalties. In neighboring Thailand, by contrast, foreign nationals are not spared from imprisonment, even for overstays. A stay in the infamous “Bangkok Hilton” can result from relatively minor infractions.
