Garuda Indonesia is considering launching new flights from Jakarta’s secondary airport, Halim Perdanakusuma (international code HLP), to Bali. Additionally, flights to Balikpapan (Kalimantan) and Singapore are in the works due to high passenger demand on these routes.
Previously, Garuda Indonesia operated only from Soekarno-Hatta Airport, and flights from Halim were temporarily suspended as the airport was closed for renovation. With renovations complete and in response to passenger requests, Garuda has decided to resume flights from Halim, which is conveniently located for many travelers. These flights are also expected to provide a strong boost to the regional economy.
Given the airport’s strategic location near central Jakarta, flights from Halim will offer convenience for residents of the city and surrounding areas, as well as international tourists. It is also just 22 km from the Gambir and Pasar Senen railway stations, which connect passengers to destinations across Java.
In comparison, Soekarno-Hatta Airport is 40 km from the consulate district.
Since November 1, 2024, Garuda has already launched daily direct flights from Halim Airport to major Indonesian cities such as Surabaya, Medan, and Padang. These flights operate on Airbus 330 and Boeing 737-800NG aircraft, with a capacity of 162 passengers (12 business class seats and 150 economy seats). Ticket prices for one-way routes are approximately IDR 1.3 million from Jakarta to Surabaya (East Java), IDR 2 million from Jakarta to Medan (Sumatra), and IDR 1.4 million from Jakarta to Padang (Sumatra). Flights to Bali are expected to begin very soon.
