Garuda Launches Bali–Papua Flights Starting March 30

Garuda Indonesia has announced that from 30 March 2026 it will start operating a new Denpasar–Timika–Jayapura route and return. The flight is already listed on the airline’s official website and in Garuda’s booking system. Timika is in Central Papua Province, and Jayapura is the capital of Papua Province in the north-east of the island of New Guinea.

The flights will operate four times a week: on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays. Departure from Denpasar is scheduled for 01:05, arriving in Timika at 05:45, then departing for Jayapura at 06:35 and arriving at 07:55. The return flight GA653 is set to depart Jayapura at 08:50, arrive in Timika at 10:10, then leave for Bali at 11:00 and arrive in Denpasar at 13:40.
The airline’s website already shows tickets for flights from Bali to Jayapura with a departure date of 30 March 2026, as well as for the return route from Jayapura to Bali. The Timika–Jayapura segments are also available separately: from 2,550,400 Indonesian rupiah from Denpasar to Jayapura, from 2,709,050 rupiah from Jayapura to Bali, and from 1,057,100 rupiah from Timika to Jayapura.
For Bali, this is a new way to fly to Papua with Garuda via Timika. Both outbound legs operate under the same flight number, GA652, and the return under GA653.
Jayapura is considered the main gateway to Papua, from where travellers head to Lake Sentani, museums of Papuan culture, and further inland, including towards the Baliem Valley. Timika, in turn, is important as one of the main access points to Lorentz National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the largest protected natural area in South-East Asia, known for its rare mix of ecosystems from tropical rainforest to the highlands around the Puncak Jaya area.
