From 2025, the BPJS Kesehatan insurance class system will be officially abolished. The government will replace classes 1, 2, and 3 with a standard class (KRIS). This change aims to equalize inpatient services without differentiating participants' status.
Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin shared the latest updates. He stated that the implementation of KRIS began gradually last year and is expected to be fully completed by June 30, 2025. This new system will completely replace the old class scheme.
"BPJS KRIS should be implemented from this year, but gradually over two years," said Budi. He also added that BPJS Kesehatan rates will not change, even if the system is replaced.
This system change is regulated by Presidential Regulation (Perpres) No. 59 of 2024. With the KRIS system, all BPJS participants will receive identical quality inpatient services.
However, during the transition period, BPJS participant contributions will still follow the previous rules. These rules are outlined in Perpres No. 63 of 2022. Participants are required to pay contributions by the 10th of each month. No penalty for late payment is imposed until July 1, 2026.
The penalty system is applied if participants receive inpatient services within 45 days of obtaining active participant status. The government ensures that BPJS contribution rates will not change during the transition period until further notice.
