The staff at one of the Balinese guesthouses made a gruesome discovery. In Kerobokan, on Gunung Tangkuban-Perahu Street, a cleaner knocked on the door of one of the guests' rooms unsuccessfully for two days. Then the door was broken down, revealing a horrifying scene.

Guesthouse staff found the body of a 28-year-old Russian, A.A. There was a plastic bag over his head, and a leather belt tightened around his neck. The man was lying face down in his underwear. Later, bank cards, several sex accessories, and a whole "biohacker pharmacy" were found in the room: Omega-3, Rhodiola 500 mg, Boron Bone Support, 5-HTP 50 mg, L-Tyrosine 500 mg, Creatine Matrix, and detox protein. The door and windows were locked from the inside. No signs of struggle were found. The combination of stimulants (5-HTP + L-Tyrosine) and creatine could have caused a sharp spike in blood pressure or suffocation during a breathing experiment.

There is a possibility that the deceased was blogger Artem Afonin. Reactions to his death appeared online, and the initials match those of the victim.
The police are currently leaning towards a theory of "exotic, possibly unintentional suicide," but do not rule out a setup. The authorities have yet to release details of the investigation, as not enough time has passed to make concrete conclusions. They will be made after toxicology and digital examination of smartphones. A police representative confirmed that the body was sent to the I Gede Ngurah hospital for an autopsy, and the results will be published within a week.
Some claim that a video shot through a gap in the blinds shows a GoPro lying next to the body. There are claims about the existence of a 'recording of the last minutes' that someone is attempting to sell to the media, talks of Russian mafia plots, and even recommendations to check if windows and doors are locked at night, which is, in general, good advice.
Such events are rare on the island, and it's no surprise that they provoke widespread reaction and discussion. A similar high-profile incident occurred in Bali in 2023, when Chinese tourists were found dead.
