Prambanan is located 18 kilometers from Yogyakarta, the cultural capital of Central Java. This stunningly beautiful temple complex is considered the country's best attraction. Dating back to the 10th century, it has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1991. Last year alone, these Hindu and Buddhist sanctuaries were visited by 2.4 million tourists. By the way, excursions are available from Bali.
This year, the number of visitors to the temple may increase. There are now more opportunities for travelers to visit. Now, it is possible to extend the visa on arrival (VoA) directly during the tour. This is especially relevant for those who, impressed by what they see, decide to postpone their departure and stay in Indonesia for an additional 30 days.
The immigration service operates in the temple two days a week: on Tuesday and Thursday from 9:00 to 15:00. Pay attention to the time difference between Bali and Java. The VoA support desk is located at the entrance for foreign tourists.
And the most pleasant thing - all procedures are promised to be completed in one day. So, before the tour, you can submit documents, pay for the visa, and provide biometrics, and then receive the coveted stamp in your passport. Usually, for self-extension (without agency assistance), three visits to the immigration office are required.
To extend the visa on arrival at the Prambanan temple, bring your passport, return ticket, and 500,000 rupiahs.
For now, the program is in a test mode until April 2024, but if everything goes well, they promise to extend it. However, this project has every chance of staying. A similar process is already organized in the Borobudur temple, adjacent to Prambanan (another gem of Java). Tourists have actively been extending visas there since July 2023. By the way, both of these attractions are often included in a single tour program.
The aim of such innovations is to facilitate the process of extending visas on arrival (VoA) for foreign tourists and increase interest in visiting the temple complex. Indonesia is currently working to encourage tourists to explore not only Bali but also other islands and regions. This is expected to contribute to the development of the tourism sector and the national economy.
Visa on arrival (VoA) is available to citizens of 97 countries. It is granted for 30 days and can be extended once for the same period. Thus, with this visa, you can stay in Indonesia for a maximum of 60 days, after which you must leave the country.
You can purchase a visa on arrival at the airport at a special counter before passing through immigration. It costs 500,000 rupiahs or 33 US dollars. Equivalent amounts in euros, Australian dollars, and several other currencies are also accepted (listed on a special form at the counter). Card payment is also available.
To start the visa extension process, it is necessary to do so in advance but not earlier than 14 days after arrival.
You can add one right now!
