Butterflies, Orchids, and Bali’s Rarest Plants: The ‘Magic Garden’ Blooms in Nuanu!

The Magic Garden in Nuanu officially opened its doors to visitors on December 1, 2024. Just as a new home traditionally welcomes a cat first, the garden began its journey by releasing 120 butterflies as a symbol of species preservation and Nuanu’s commitment to nature.

The Magic Garden was created to showcase the diversity of Bali’s flora and fauna while highlighting the importance of conservation. The park features three main zones: the Butterfly Garden, the Botanical Gallery, and the Orchid Garden.
Dedicated to the protection of Bali’s native butterfly species, the garden is designed to mimic their natural habitat. Visitors can learn about the vital role butterflies play as pollinators and indicators of ecosystem health. Thanks to conservation programs, the survival rate of butterflies and dragonflies in the garden has increased to 20%, significantly higher than the natural survival rate of just 2%.
This section features over 400 rare and exotic plants, some of which are cultivated for Nuanu’s reforestation program, which has successfully planted more than 15,000 trees.
The most fragrant zone of the park, this area boasts 500 species of orchids native to Bali. Photographers have already started adding the garden to their must-visit lists for vibrant and colorful photoshoots.
Audria Evelinn, head of Nuanu’s conservation group, explained that the Magic Garden is more than just a tourist attraction. It is part of their broader effort to engage the community in preserving and celebrating Bali’s biodiversity.
“The Magic Garden is an immersive garden design. We hope it will become a space where visitors can learn to connect with nature in a meaningful way,” Evelinn said.
The park is expected to attract even more tourists to Tabanan and will also serve as a site for scientific research and education, offering opportunities to delve deeper into Bali’s rich biodiversity.
The 3,600-square-meter garden balances development and nature conservation, with only 30% of the land developed and the remaining 70% designated for green spaces.
Admission to the park is IDR 150,000 per person, open daily from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
Visitors can combine a trip to the Magic Garden with a visit to the newly opened The Dome, an interactive audiovisual space with a 360-degree view. The Dome aims to connect visitors with Bali’s cultural and natural spirit through immersive scents, visuals, and experiences, including the live show The Bali Mystic.
For those looking for more, Nuanu is also home to Luna Beach Club, a stylish beachfront destination.
