A banner has gone up in Pererenan banning motorbikes with loud exhausts from entering. The sign is written in three languages.

The banner is signed on behalf of the village. Photos of it being put up were posted by the Pererenan village administration together with a community of local residents and business owners. A day earlier, they had invited neighbours to a meeting on how to deal with loud, fast bikes. It has not yet been announced how the ban will be enforced or what penalties offenders will face.
Loud exhausts are, in any case, banned on all roads in Indonesia. Police can fine riders up to 250 thousand rupiah for one and may impound the motorbike.
Police regularly check bikes at the Tiying Tutul intersection in Pererenan. In May, 18 foreigners were fined there, and on 10 October, 29 violations were found. Riding without a helmet was the most common offence, four motorbikes had non-compliant exhausts, and police held eight bikes.

In March, in neighbouring Cemagi, a Ukrainian citizen lost his bike, which had a loud exhaust. A tourist from Argentina had complained about the noise and dangerous riding.
In early October, Pererenan cafés also spoke out against loud bikes. The bakery 7AM Bakers wrote that it does not support noisy motorbikes and asked guests to respect the neighbours.
