Foreign tourists visiting Denpasar Regency, including beach resorts like Sanur, increased their average spending in 2024 by 11.3% compared to 2023. Last year, the average expenditure was IDR 1,988,477, whereas in 2024, it rose to IDR 2,242,540 per person. Domestic tourists also increased their spending, albeit by a smaller margin of 3.5%.
While these amounts might seem modest at first glance—around $140 USD per person—it’s important to note that the average stay for international tourists in Bali is just two nights and three days. However, a significant portion of tourists stay on the island for 7-14 days, contributing considerably to annual tourism revenue.
These expenditures covered accommodation, food and beverages, local transportation, souvenirs, guided tours, entrance fees to attractions, water sports and activities, spa and wellness treatments, and nightlife. Spa and wellness experiences have grown increasingly popular among tourists.
Most international visitors come from Australia, followed by the Netherlands and Germany, with the majority aged between 27 and 42. Domestic tourists primarily hail from Jakarta, East Java, and Central Java.
International travelers tend to rely on Instagram and Facebook for trip planning, while domestic tourists prefer Instagram and TikTok.
Austrian tourists ranked as the top spenders in Indonesia in 2023, averaging IDR 69.4 million (approximately $4,274 USD) per visit. Swiss tourists followed, spending an average of IDR 67.4 million (around $4,151 USD) during their time in the archipelago.
