Bali Paragliding Turns Deadly for Two Foreigners

A married couple from South Korea — 43-year-old Han Seo-jin and 41-year-old Hwang Jin-ah — died while landing their paraglider in Kutuh village (Badung district). The device fell into the coastal area of Tanah Barak beach.

According to the Denpasar police, the couple did not have time to unbuckle their harnesses and ended up underwater at a depth of just over a meter.
The flight lasted about ten minutes. When the wind changed direction, a group of five decided to land. Three tourists landed safely on the ground, but the couple fell into the ocean. Witnesses and friends pulled them ashore; however, both were unconscious and soon died in the hospital.
According to the police, Han and Hwang had valid paragliding pilot licenses and regularly flew in various countries. Before the trip, they underwent a medical examination in Korea. The company Panda Paragliding clarified that the tourists insisted on flying independently and used their own equipment. The company only provided the group with a launch platform on the cliff, a landing zone, and ground support.

The family of the deceased declined an autopsy. The couple was cremated in Bali, and the urns with their ashes were sent back to their homeland. In their statement, the relatives described the incident as a tragic accident and held no claims against the organizers.
Paragliding remains a safe and incredibly exhilarating experience, but it should be undertaken only with true professionals who thoroughly understand the characteristics of local air currents — certified instructors will assess the weather in advance, select equipment, and ensure a smooth landing so you can enjoy the views of Bukit without unnecessary risk.
