Workers at Ngurah Rai Airport in Bali have begun a strike. On August 19, they held a peaceful protest in the motorcycle parking area.
The three-day strike was triggered by issues with employment contracts. The new documents lack assurances for long-term job security, creating tension among employees.
Made Dodik Satriawan, Chairman of the Serikat Pekerja Mandiri Angkasa Pura Supports (APS) union, stated that the protest aims to urge APS management to immediately remove the term "project" from the hiring order for permanent staff, as it creates uncertainty in their employment status. "The employment contract should be valid until retirement, but in 2022 it was only extended until 2026, and no one knows what will happen afterward, which is causing concern among our colleagues."
Earlier, Ngurah Rai Airport General Manager Handy Heryudhitiawan stated that despite the strike involving hundreds of airport employees (around 250 participants), airport operations are continuing as usual.
The airport management received advance notice of the planned strike, allowing them to develop an appropriate strategy.
