The Bali authorities have set a target of 6.625 million international tourists for 2026. The province’s Tourism Office said the benchmark is set out in the strategic plan through to 2030. At the same time, the current tourism strategy focuses not only on visitor numbers, but also on the quality of tourism.
Against this backdrop, the Badung administration has effectively outlined how the authorities plan to stay the course. Officials said they will prioritise infrastructure as the foundation of “quality tourism”. The main problems cited are traffic congestion, unreliable water supply, rubbish and flooding — these are the issues the Badung authorities consider priorities for near-term planning.
If the island continues to welcome millions of tourists, without addressing the basic problems in the southern areas, talk of “quality tourism” will remain just a slogan.
The authorities noted that in 2025 they expected 6.5 million international tourists, but Bali ultimately welcomed around 6.9 million. Now, amid risks to long-haul routes linked to the situation in the Middle East, the Tourism Office says it is paying more attention to markets in Asia and the Asia-Pacific region — above all Australia, India, China, South Korea, Malaysia and Singapore.
