And Yet It Spins! Ferris Wheel Launches in Canggu

In February this year, it seemed that we would not get a ride on the giant Ferris wheel in the center of Canggu.

Residents of the village of Tibubeneng were upset that the project threatened traffic jams, invasion of yard privacy, and non-compliance with seismic standards, and Senator Ni Luh Jelantik publicly called on the authorities to dismantle the structure.
However, on the morning of June 21, almost without prior announcement, the attraction opened under the name The Wheel Bali. The steel giant rose on Gang Sri Kahyangan lane next to Atlas Beach Club. Now glazed, air-conditioned cabins lift guests above rice terraces and the coastline: one round lasts about ten minutes, rides are daily from 9:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. An adult ticket costs 200,000 rupiahs, a child ticket — 100,000, and children under three ride for free. During the launch, a fifty percent discount is available for the first fifty passengers, resulting in a queue at the ticket office in the morning.
In the evening, the wheel is illuminated with dynamic LEDs and is clearly visible from Berawa Beach; during the day, there are almost no queues. So far, the only inconvenience forecasted has been the influx of tourists at sunset; the district administration has limited itself to reminding investors to register the facility in the ATR/BPOD database and to expand parking capacity.
The owners promise to announce the precise height of the structure and the number of cabins after completing the paperwork. The Wheel Bali is the first Ferris wheel in the south of the island and likely the largest in Bali. We will continue to monitor how the new attraction integrates into the daily life of Canggu.
