Nusa Penida now has a sea ambulance that will carry patients between the islands and medical facilities.
The Nusa Medica Sea Ambulance service was officially launched on September 22 at Bias Munjul harbour on Nusa Lembongan.
The new service is meant to speed up medical evacuations in emergencies. For Nusa Penida, Nusa Lembongan and Nusa Ceningan this matters especially because of their geography: if the necessary treatment is not available locally, the patient has to be taken to Bali.
The sea ambulance is intended for both local residents and tourists. On board there is a ventilator, a suction device, a cardiac monitor, oxygen and medicines. Patients are accompanied by trained doctors and nurses. The vessel and its crew will be on duty around the clock at Bias Munjul harbour.
In Bali, patients will be received at the Sanur and Padang Bai harbours. From there they will be taken on to specialised clinics. If needed and if weather conditions allow, the service is also expected to be used to transport patients from Gili Air and Gili Trawangan.
The sea ambulance is intended for patients who need further treatment in hospital. Such cases include head injuries, fractures, dehydration caused by diarrhoea, heart conditions and other problems that require hospitalisation.
