Ten people were detained during an operation conducted by the immigration team in the Canggu area. The officers chose this area for the raid due to its high concentration of foreigners. The detainees were allegedly violating their visa rules by working without authorization.
The foreigners were employed as hairdressers, nail technicians, or beauty salon administrators.
According to Pramella Yundar Pasaribu, head of the regional office of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights, the team inspected 15 locations during the operation. “After further investigation, four of the detainees were cleared of immigration violations, while six others were found guilty and are now facing serious charges,” Yundar Pasaribu reported.
Of the six foreigners found guilty, four were working as hairdressers. This includes a 40-year-old man with the initials KDK from Côte d'Ivoire, holding an investor visa valid until September 20, 2025; a 37-year-old woman with the initials CLK from Australia, with the same type of visa; a 34-year-old Russian national, K.B., also with an investment visa; and a Ukrainian man with the initials K.D.
In addition to these four, two more Russians were detained: a nail technician and a 25-year-old woman working as an administrator. Most of the foreigners had investor visas, which prohibit employment in Indonesia. Currently, the six foreigners are still under investigation by the immigration authorities, with further actions, including possible deportation, being considered. “ITAS Investor holders must focus on investment activities and are not allowed to work in Indonesia in any capacity,” Pramella explained.
The immigration service is also investigating how these foreigners were employed and what salaries they were paid. Measures will be taken against salon owners if it is found that they employed staff illegally.
It is important to note that raids are currently underway in tourist areas to capture illegally working foreigners, and, according to the foreigner control group, there will be many such inspections. Foreigners must have a KITAS (Temporary Stay Permit) to work in Indonesia, which is tied to a specific company and type of activity. Without a KITAS and work permit, individuals may face fines, imprisonment (if unable to pay the fine), or deportation with a ban on re-entry for several years.
