Seminyak (Double Six) is a sand-bottom beach break on Bali's West Coast, between Legian and Canggu. The waves here are generally lower quality than at the neighbouring Kuta spots, but the vibe is relaxed and it's less crowded. Double Six is one of several peaks in the Seminyak area. The neighbouring peak is Ku De Ta, a little to the south. The spot suits beginners and improvers — for advanced surfers it's usually uninteresting.
The wave & conditions
A typical beach break: lefts and rights on shifting sandbanks. The wave is best at chest height. At low tide it gets sucky, at high it often closes out. Best conditions are on the pushing tide, from low to mid. At Double Six the vast majority of waves are closeouts. A proper ride along the wall is the exception rather than the rule. The spot is good for practising your take-off and riding whitewater, but not for working on turns.
Conditions & tips
Less crowded than Kuta — more comfortable for learning. On a big swell rips appear — beginners should be careful. The bottom is sand, relatively safe. There are surf schools and board rental. On the beach there are beach clubs, restaurants and the infrastructure of the Seminyak area. It's better to surf in the morning before the onshore wind picks up.
Hazards: rips on a big swell, closeouts
Max swell: 6 ft
