Bali Handara Gate is one of Bali's most iconic photo spots, located in the highlands of Bedugul in northern Bali. This traditional Balinese split gate (candi bentar) serves as the entrance to the Handara Golf & Resort and has become famous worldwide for its dramatic backdrop of misty mountains and lush tropical greenery.
What to See
The gate itself is a striking example of traditional Balinese architecture, featuring dark volcanic stone and intricate carvings. The real magic happens with the surrounding landscape — on clear mornings, you'll see dramatic mountain peaks emerging from the mist. The lush green golf course stretching behind the gate creates a perfect symmetrical composition that has made this location a social media sensation.
Practical Information
- Opening hours: daily 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
- How to get there: 2 hours drive from Seminyak, 1.5 hours from Ubud via Bedugul road
- Best time to visit: early morning (before 9 AM) for misty atmosphere and fewer crowds
- What to bring: warm layer (the highlands can be cool and damp)
Tips
Arrive early in the morning for the best photos — the mist usually clears by mid-morning, and tour buses start arriving around 10 AM. Weekday mornings are generally less crowded than weekends. There's often a short queue for photos, so be patient and respectful of other visitors' time.
The gate is conveniently located along the main Bedugul route, making it easy to combine with visits to Ulun Danu Beratan Temple, Wanagiri Hidden Hills, or the Twin Lakes viewpoint. All these attractions are within 15-20 minutes drive from each other.
