A popular warung where you can try the traditional Balinese dish of Babi Guling - spit-roasted suckling pig.
A warung with a long history, babi guling has been cooking here for 32 years! The place is very famous, recommended by locals as one of the best Babi Guling specialists, and they didn't let us down. It looks quite simple, like a warung with a large hall, but all the tables are full, and we came specially in the morning to sit quietly. It's packed! Locals, Chinese, Japanese, Europeans, Australians, Russians - this is the geography of the globe in a simple local warung in Bali, the pig united everyone) We found a table, sat with the Balinese and met a family of locals, they dance Kechak dance in the temple of Uluwatu, and also specially came to the pig!
The system in warung is as follows - go in, find a table (the main thing is to find it), a staff comes, order, eat, then pay. The only difficulty is that there is no menu, and it's hard to order when you don't know what to order) They offer only babi guling, only 6 kinds - babi guling pisah (a plate with different pieces of pig, rice and pork broth) - 40k, babi guling campur (same thing, but not all pieces of pig) - 30k, daging babi (large portion of pig, rice not included) - 60k, sate babi (pork kebab, 10 sticks, rice not included) - 50k, and some other two types of pork sausage.
If it's really hard to understand, ask for the teik ewei box, it's all drawn on there. It's best to come in a big group, and order several dishes so that everyone can try different versions of the pig. In general, babi guling is small pieces of pig, delicate and slightly spicy taste, absolutely lean meat and no specific pork smell. I'm not a fan of pork, I don't eat it, but I liked the Balinese pig. The correct way to eat babi guling is to mix rice with pig and drink broth. Drinks all from the fridge, there is Chinese herbal tea 25k per bottle (but sweet so); at the cashier sell local cookies Pia/Pia with different fillings 12k per piece. Prices are full, no tax.
