Around Bali by Kayak: Epic 20-Day Journey

On August 10, three young people — Bangkit Sakti (24), Ayu Lakshmi (30), and Andriano Amos (29) — embarked on an unusual journey: to kayak around Bali in 20 days. The expedition was timed to coincide with the 80th anniversary of Indonesia's independence and dedicated to the theme of sustainable sports tourism.

The route started at Karang Beach in Sanur and will finish there on August 30. Each day, the team spends 7-8 hours on the water, covering 20 to 25 kilometers. In total, that's 668 kilometers around the island.
In the evenings, participants come ashore, set up tents directly on the sand, cook meals, and share news on social media. Now they have reached the island of Menjangan in Buleleng — a region with crystal clear water and coral reefs.
Kayaking is a way to travel without harming nature. We want to show that Bali can be seen not only from land but also from water — from a different, calm side," says Andriano Amos.
Ayu Lakshmi adds: "Kayaks can be used anywhere — on rivers, in the sea, on lakes. It's an alternative to mass tourism that could become a separate area of active recreation."
The expedition is not just a personal challenge for the three friends. It's a reminder of what tourism in Bali can be: less noisy, closer to nature, open to those seeking their own path.
Bali has long been known for surfing and beaches, but soon it might be associated with something else — the quiet splash of a paddle, a campsite by the water, and a long route along the coast.
