Strong Waves Hit Turtle Rescue Center in Tabanan

On the southern coast of Bali, strong surf damaged the fencing of the marine turtle conservation center, where they care for egg clutches and young hatchlings.

According to the head of the village, I Ketut Dolia, on Friday, powerful waves broke through the fence protecting the conservation area. Fortunately, the turtles and the already hatched babies were not harmed. The fence repair will be postponed until the ocean calms down.
Currently, there are about 250 nests in the center, and hatchlings have already appeared in 150 of them. “The main thing is that a new storm doesn't take away the remaining ones. As soon as the sea calms down, we'll restore the fence,” Dolia said.
The high waves also affected the fishermen of Tabanan: many traditional boats were holed or swept away by the current, requiring them to be manually pulled ashore.
Strong waves will persist in all southern waters of the island until August 12th. Wave heights in the waters of the southern coast, the Badung Strait, and the south of the Lombok Strait can reach 2.5–4 meters, while in the north of Bali and the northern part of the Lombok Strait, they can reach 1.25–2.5 meters.
