Two Tourists were Swept Away by Large Waves in Bali

In recent days, Bali has experienced dangerous weather conditions, with large waves reaching two meters or more in height, especially along the southern part of the island. Authorities have issued a warning urging tourists to avoid swimming and to exercise extreme caution. Unfortunately, not everyone heeded the warning.
There have been two tragic incidents in Bali and neighboring Nusa Penida, where two tourists lost their lives due to large waves, some reaching heights of up to five meters.
Australian citizen Laidley Craig Stewart, 56, was swept away by waves at Balian Beach in Tabanan. Sadly, she could not be saved. The search continued for two days, and her body was found in the water about one kilometer west of the incident site.
On Nusa Penida, an Indian tourist was also swept away by a large wave. This happened while he was taking a selfie with his wife near the cliffs at Angel Billabong’s natural pool. The 59-year-old man was knocked off his feet by a powerful wave. He fell and rolled down the rocks into the ocean. Three boats were involved in the rescue efforts, but the man drowned.
Unfortunately, such incidents are not uncommon in Bali, as tourists often underestimate the strength of the ocean. Small waves can suddenly turn into a powerful surge, and a seemingly safe rock can be washed over by a strong wave within minutes. Always exercise caution when near coastal cliffs, even if a selfie from the edge seems like a great idea.
