Singarajas Iconic ‘Kilometer Zero’ Gets a Fresh New Look

In Singaraja, a project is being prepared to improve the 'Kilometer Zero' landmark. The district regent I Nyoman Sutjidra shared that the concept is based on historical heritage: Dutch colonial architecture buildings have been preserved here, especially along Ngurah Rai Street. One of them once served as the residence of the Sunda-Kecil governor.

"We will combine the administrative building, official residence, and the Lakshmi Graha building into a single historical complex — the 'Home of the People of Buleleng': an open, beautiful, and accessible space," Sutjidra explained.
According to the head of the public works and planning department, the central point will be the intersection near the Singa Ambaraja Lion Monument. The steps and gates at the administrative building will be dismantled to allow free access; the green area at the regent's residence will be expanded, and fences will be removed.
On the western side of the monument, there will be parking for tourist buses. All buildings will be restored, and overhead wires will be moved underground to reduce visual clutter and make the center tidier.
The project will be discussed with historians and architects to preserve authenticity and achieve the best result.
