From August 11, ascents to Mount Rinjani on Lombok are allowed again on all six tourist routes. On the first day of opening, 649 people climbed Rinjani — 425 men and 224 women.

The daily visit limit remains the same — 700 people, distributed across the routes: 150 from the Sembalun entrance, 150 from Senaru, 100 on the Timbanuh route, 100 on the Torean route, 100 via Tetebatu, and 100 via Aik Berik. On the first day of the ascents, quotas for the most popular entries — Sembalun, Senaru, and Torean — were fully booked. On other routes, such as Timbanuh and Aik Berik, there are still spots available.
Guide Lukmanul Hakim admitted that although he only has two tourists today, he is happy to return to work: “For the last 10 days, I've just been sitting at home doing nothing. Today's climb feels like meeting an old friend.”
It should be noted that all climbing routes were closed for 10 days due to an increase in accidents, including the death of Brazilian tourist Juliana Marins. During this time, the park administration improved and fortified the trails, revised the rules, and prepared updated standard operating procedures (SOP).
New Climbing Rules
From August 11, the fifth edition of the SOP regulating climbing procedures came into effect.
- Mandatory online registration in e-Rinjani (can be done via a tour operator). After confirming availability, you need to pay and receive an eTicket.
- Medical health certificate — issued no more than a day before the climb by a government doctor or licensed medical institution.
- Insurance — mandatory purchase of an insurance policy from a company assigned by the Rinjani administration.
- Climbing experience — requires proof (photos, certificates, interviews).
- Minors — under 17 must be accompanied by a guide or experienced climber and have written permission from parents/guardians.
- Beginners — must be accompanied by a guide.
- Safety briefing — mandatory before climbing; load limits established: a maximum of 15 kg for each guide, 25 kg for each porter.
- Ban on musical instruments and active speakers.
- Date change rules — an official reason and supporting documents are required for booking changes.
The park administration emphasizes that the rules may be revised based on regular assessments of the situation.
