Product basket. Prices for the most popular goods in Bali

This comparison records grocery prices in Bali in February 2023. Use it as a historical snapshot and check current shop prices when planning your budget.
Image
Expats mostly cook at home. Prices for groceries vary depending on where they are purchased, the manufacturer, and sometimes the ability to bargain. For example, an experienced Bali resident can buy fruits and vegetables much cheaper at the market than in a supermarket. But this only works if you are familiar with local prices. We will try to help you with this.
We have collected prices for basic products and essential goods that are usually used in everyday life. We will go shopping at Indomaret (the most common minimart in Indonesia), the popular and rather expensive Pepito supermarket, and the local grocery market. We have put together a basket of goods that are familiar to us but are also popular in Indonesia.

Indomaret basket

Here you will not find meat, fruits and vegetables, or alcohol. But, most likely, this store will be the closest to your home."

Basket of the market

At local markets, prices for all products are orders of magnitude lower than in supermarkets, and now you can see it for yourself.
But it should be understood that the cost of the same product may also differ on different markets. In fact, a seller at one point can name different prices to two different buyers because price tags are extremely rare here. And also, the price list here is established depending on the area, the number of tourists visiting the market, well, and the size of a particular fruit, seasonality. So all the prices listed below should be viewed with a correction of several thousand rupiah/tens of cents. And remember, you can always try to bargain.
Prices are in February 2023

And on the market stalls you can also find local snacks, ready-to-eat food packaged in palm leaves, various pastries and traditional sweets. All of this looks unusual for island guests, but interesting.
The cost of each item is around Rp 1,000 - 6,000 / $0.066 - 0.39.
For example, approximately 120 grams of boiled rice with pieces of chicken costs 39 cents (this was the most expensive item on the stall).
One boiled corn costs Rp 5,000. For comparison, in a tourist spot (beach, fish market) the same corn can cost Rp 20,000.
