High Tide Alert: Sea Levels Expected to Rise in Bali

Coastal flooding is possible along Bali’s coastline from 12 to 20 June. On 15 June, the new moon coincides with perigee, when the Moon is closest to Earth. As a result, water levels during the peak high tide may be higher than usual.

The warning applies to the southern coasts of Jembrana, Tabanan, Badung, Denpasar, Gianyar and southern Klungkung. It concerns low-lying areas near the ocean, where water may reach further inland than usual during high tide.
On high-tide days, the shoreline may become narrower in some areas, and the water may come closer to sun loungers, car parks, steps and beach exits. This is especially noticeable on low-lying beaches and near ports. Before boat trips or walks along the coast, it is best to check the forecast and the situation on site.
These tides are a regular occurrence in Bali. They usually happen several times a year, most often around the new moon, full moon and periods when the Moon is closer to Earth. The meteorological service issues warnings in advance because, on such days, water levels in some coastal areas may rise above normal.
