Nyepi Notice: Mobile Internet Disabled

On the Day of Silence Nyepi, on 19 March 2026, home internet via Wi‑Fi in Bali is expected to work as usual. At the same time, the authorities plan to switch off mobile internet (mobile data) and IPTV for 24 hours — roughly from 06:00 on 19 March to 06:00 on 20 March. Phone calls and SMS will remain available.

The Bali Provincial Department of Communication, Informatics and Statistics announced the plans for the Nyepi period. The department said home Wi‑Fi networks will not be blocked so that connectivity remains available for everyday needs and emergencies, as well as for critical infrastructure.
At the same time, mobile data services and IPTV (internet TV provided by an ISP) are planned to be suspended for 24 hours. Calls and SMS should continue to work.
The department has also sent a letter to the relevant ministry in Jakarta asking it to coordinate with mobile operators and TV service providers. Before any shutdown, subscribers are usually informed in advance.
In 2018–2019, the authorities and operators discussed a full 24-hour internet shutdown (with exceptions for critical services), and in 2018 this also included home internet such as IndiHome. Later, the Bali government clarified separately that the shutdown applies specifically to mobile data and IPTV.
Nyepi is the main Balinese Hindu holiday — the Day of Silence. At this time, strict restrictions apply on the island: people do not go outside, do not turn on lights, and try to keep quiet. Specific communication measures are introduced to help enforce the bans on work and entertainment.
Instead of ‘waiting out’ Nyepi at home, spend it somewhere comfortable, where silence becomes a pleasure rather than a restriction. MyBaliTrips offers a two-night hotel stay with a pool, a tropical garden, and a calm atmosphere.
