In Tabanan, rescuers saved three young hikers who got lost while descending Mount Batukaru. The group included a 17-year-old Indonesian citizen and two 18-year-old Russian citizens. They were found alive, well, and in stable condition.

The hikers started the route on Thursday, 28 May, at around 09:00 Bali local time. They went up via the trail near Pura Petali Temple in the village of Jatiluwih, Penebel district.
At around 15:00, the group began their descent. By evening, they lost their bearings and were unable to get off the mountain on their own. One of the hikers contacted family members and said they were lost.
Relatives passed the information to Basarnas, Indonesia’s search and rescue service. Seven staff from the Buleleng search and rescue post were sent to the area. Police, the military, local guides, and residents also joined the search.
The next morning, the search team set out from the post in Karyasari village. At around 11:00, the hikers were found at an altitude of about 1,899 metres. They were then escorted down and handed over to their families.
Batukaru is a forested mountain area in Tabanan. Anyone planning to hike there is advised to go with a local guide, check the forecast in advance, fully charge their phone, and take water, a torch, and warm clothing.
It gets dark quickly on the route, and mobile coverage is not available everywhere.
