Lombok to Build Its First Ever Toll Road

The Western Lesser Sunda Islands are preparing for major infrastructural changes. This year, the construction of the first toll road on Lombok, stretching 80 kilometers, will begin. It will connect the port of Lembar in West Lombok with the port of Kayangan in the east of the island, following a southern route.

The project is estimated at 1.9 trillion Indonesian rupiah (about 120 million US dollars) and is being implemented through a mixed financing scheme: funds from the regional budget will be directed to land acquisition, while the construction of the road itself will be funded by the state.
The new road will significantly improve transport links between the western and eastern parts of the island, as well as reduce the load on the northern route through Mataram, where traffic jams and accidents frequently occur. Additionally, access to tourist areas will be enhanced, and the delivery of goods between the ports of Lombok and the neighboring island of Sumbawa will be faster.
Although the Lembar — Kayangan road will be tolled, it will save substantial time and effort for both tourists and freight carriers. For those who have long dreamed of exploring Lombok thoroughly, this is excellent news: traveling will become easier and more comfortable.
